As another step towards sustainable development and people’s welfare, we are launching ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’. With an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore, the project aims to illuminate 1 crore households by providing free electricity up to 300 units per month.
From large subsidies given directly to people’s bank accounts to big discounts on bank loans, the central government will ensure that there is no financial burden on the people. All stakeholders will be connected to a national online portal which will facilitate more facilities.
In order to spread the scheme at the grassroots level, municipalities and panchayats will be encouraged to promote rooftop solar systems in their areas. Also, the scheme will generate more income, lower electricity bills and jobs for the people.
Let’s strengthen solar energy and sustainable progress. I appeal to all residential consumers, especially the youth, to apply on pmsuryaghar.gov.in to strengthen the PM – Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
Some of the key features of the plan are as follows:
- Free availability of electricity up to 300 units per month to beneficiaries
- Rs 75,000 crore allocated for the scheme
- Homeowners will have to install solar panels on the roof of their homes
- The scheme will be subsidised by the government
- The scheme will enhance energy security in the country and help reduce carbon emissions
